Green Lakes State Park offers a unique outdoor experience for campers and day guests in central New York State.

Two glacial lakes, Green Lake and Round Lake, are the highlights of the landscape at Green Lakes State Park. This 1,756 acre NY State park is a well-kept, stunning back drop to a vacation that focuses on swimming, biking, hiking, boating, golfing and camping.

Swimming and Diving in Green Lake

The Green Lakes State Park swimming area has something for every level of swimmer. Starting at the large, sandy beach, the water level gradually deepens to the roped boundary line. This area is ideal for children’s swimming and playing. The swimming area is fully staffed with life guards. The park requires that children be accompanied by parents while in the water at all times.

For those that are proficient swimmers, there is an area designated for diving and lane swimming. The area is clearly marked and is separated by ropes from the rest of the swimming area.

Biking Trails at Green Lakes State Park

Guests at Green Lakes State Park can bike over several miles of paved or unpaved bicycle trails or over the quiet, park roads. Both the trails and the park roads explore the park, offering scenic views and woody retreats. There are trails for all ability levels, from the advanced biker looking for serious exercise to the child with training wheels biking with his parents.

Hiking Around Green Lake and Round Lake

Hikers at Green Lakes State Park have even more options. In addition to hiking and walking on the park roads and the same trails that bicycles travel, there are three hiking-only trails. The trails around both Green Lake and Round Lake are for foot travel only and boast some of the most beautiful scenes of the unique lakes.

Green Lakes State Park offers boat rentals to campers and day guests. Private boats are not permitted on the lake, but row boats and paddle boats are available for rent.

Golfing at Green Lakes

An 18-hole golf course is a special feature at Green Lakes State Park. The golf course has a practice putting green, cart rentals and clubhouse.

Central New York Camping

Green Lakes State Park has 137 campsites. Each site is spacious, includes a picnic table and a fire pit. Forty-two of the sites have electrical hook-ups. Campers are welcome to camp in tents, pop-up campers, fifth-wheel campers or full-size mobile homes.

Shared water faucets are placed in a convenient location to the campsites. Bathrooms are also conveniently located and boast hot water showers that don’t require coins to operate.

The park contains two areas that are designated for camping. These are the Pine Wood camping area and the Rolling Hills camping area. The Pine Wood area contains a nature center that gives scheduled, informational talks on topics such as local tree identification.

For those that like an easier camping experience, Green Lakes State Park also has seven cabins. As with any cabin rentals, it would be wise to call well ahead of a planned vacation to reserve a spot.

Green Lakes State Park has something for every outdoor vacationer. It is a truly unique New York State Park that offers swimming, biking, hiking, boating, golfing and camping in one beautiful location.
