For all the stressed-out, restless New Yorkers, Yelo offers the ultimate power nap or reflexology treatments.

Yelo bills itself as a wellness center, not a spa. Opened in 2007 by Nicolas Ronco, it was created as a refuge for urbanites instead of a destination spa. The focus is on time-efficient, results-oriented relaxation (an oxymoron?).

“People are under non-stop stress and in a city like New York, they need space to recharge quickly and economically,” said Ronco, who based Yelo on spas in Asia.

The Ultimate Power Nap

A signature treatment is the Yelo Nap. It takes the power nap to another level providing sleek private sleep cabins, called “YeloCabs” to lull patrons to sleep. Within the cab the person lies in a zero gravity chair that reclines to elevate the legs above the heart. This body position slows heart rate and pulse to encourage deep relaxation. Sleepers are awakened to LED lights that stimulate sunrise for a gentle, natural return to reality. Naps are available in 20 ($15) or 40-minute ($28) sessions.

“It’s extremely affordable,” said Ronco. “You don’t have to think about spending that amount of money.

In the city that never sleeps, the population is often frazzled. But sleep is an integral part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Recent studies have shown that a quick nap after studying or learning a new skill speeds up learning and retention.

Enter a New Dimension

A new treatment at Yelo is the Alpha-Fphere. This $35, 25-minute session is unique in the United States. The lounger, from Austria, emits blue light, sound and vibration and is designed to put a person into an alpha state.

“It’s like going to the fourth dimension,” said Ronco. “I feel like I’m on a flying carpet.”

The Alpha-Fphere was studied at the University of Vienna and has been shown to balance brain waves.

Pinpoint Pain with Reflexology

If tiredness and aches are a problem, opt for the 20/20. This treatment pairs the 20-minute Yelo Nap with 20 minutes of reflexology.

Reflexology is based on the idea that all of the body’s systems are interconnected. Therefore providing different pressure at certain points on the hands, feet and ears can alleviate problems throughout the body.

Relieve Jet Lag

For travelers to the New York area there is the Travelade. A 40-minute offering that starts with a resistance drink to ward of jet lag and illness, an inhalation of essential oils and 40-minutes of reflexology. To continue the effects a headache relief pack or Sprayology Jet Lag spray is given to take back to the hotel.

Yelo offers a 15% happy hour discount from 10 a.m. to noon and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
