The New York Renaissance Faire brings a 16th Century European marketplace and entertainment to Hudson Valley weekends from August 2 - September 21, 2008.
The New York Renaissance Faire in Sterling Forest of Tuxedo, New York celebrates their 31st anniversary of fantasy and fun from August 2 through September 21, 2008. The festival is based upon historical characters and events, with a lot of imagination and whimsy added. The Renaissance Faire features medieval entertainment, arts and crafts, festival food and games. Stroll the marketplace grounds along with a cast of royal characters, peasants, bawdy wenches, minstrels, jesters, faeries, belly dancers and villains. The New York Renaissance Faire is set in a permanent village, used only for the fair. Queen Elizabeth I travels with Her Royal Court to a 16th Century European Village. Her Royal Majesty partakes in the enjoyment of 20 stages of entertainment, jousting knights on horseback, fine festival food, the village marketplace and the general revelry of the villagers. Guests have fun interacting with the jesters, minstrels and villagers strolling the lanes. Robin Hood and his Merry Men will be on hand, thwarting the plans of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. The shire's Marketplace features over 100 shops offers the unique medieval ware, such as jewelery, clothing, trinkets, weapons and more. Much of the fun of visiting the medieval village is the chance for immersion into another time and place. Festival attenders are free to participate as much, or as little, as they like. Visit as a spectator, or become part of the entertainment. Return visitors often get into the act, dressing up in medieval garments and taking on a 16th century persona, complete with fake English accent. Dressing up is entirely optional. Festival goers in shorts and tank tops are often seen side by side with pirates or dandies in elaborate garb. Festival food is easily eaten without utensils. Munch on turkey legs, .fish and chips, Greek gyros, steak on a stake, sausage on a stick and sandwiches. All kinds of beverages are served, including soda pop, beer and wine.. Tickets and General InformationThe New York Renaissance Faire is open on Saturdays and Sundays, August 2 through September 21, 2008. The festival is also open on Labor Day. Hours are 10 am to 7 pm each day, rain or shine. The festival is located at 600 Route 17A, Sterling Forest, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987. Sterling Forest is located in the heart of Hudson Valley, 35 miles northwest of New York City. The grounds are 11 miles south of The Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. Tickets at the gate are: Adult $20, Children (5-12) $9, Children under 5 are free. Discount tickets can be purchased on line at the Ren-Faire Website. Parking: General parking is free.
