The non stop energy in New York can be exhilarating and exhausting. When the hustle and bustle gets too much, it's time to recharge at two of the best spas in the city.

While of this can lead to an exciting city, it also can drain the life force out of a person. To revive, head to one of the two best spas in the Big Apple

The Peninsula ESPA

Throughout 2008, the Peninsula Spa was dark like a theater closed for the night. In January the five star hotel located just off Fifth Avenue reopened its spa as an ESPA. Taking up the entire 19th floor with 12 treatment rooms, the spa’s design is inspired by nature and features tactile, sustainable minimalist décor with an Asian influence.

Guests can take advantage of a state-of-the-art fitness center or simply relax in the steam and sauna facilities located in the locker rooms. Couples can book a private spa suite for treatments.

To rejuvenate from long days of sightseeing, try the Deep Tissue Treatment, one of six signature services. The two-hour experience begins with a traditional Asian foot cleanse using mineral salts and oils. During this time the therapist will offer up smells of several different essential oils so the client can pick the one that pleases them most for the treatment.

Once on the table, the therapist commences a dry brush designed to exfoliate the skin and promote circulation. A liberal application of oil is applied after each section of the body is brushed.

A slow deep tissue massage featuring stretching and trigger point techniques is the highlight of the treatment. The experience concludes with a calming scalp massage.

While the treatments at the Peninsula are stellar, the best part of the spa is the relaxation rooms featuring incredibly comfortable beds dressed with Frette linens. Each relaxation space also offers a personal sound system and headphones. Any plans to see more of the city will be hard to follow through on after spending anytime in the bed.

The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental

Just off Central Park, on the Upper West Side, the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental is waiting to soothe the frazzled nerves of travelers and locals alike. Stepping off on the 34th floor, the hustle and bustle of the city seems far away as the spa receptionist immediately gives you a basket for your shoes, and slippers to wear in the spa. This signature of the Mandarin Oriental harkens to entering an Asian home san shoes.

Take advantage of the Jacuzzi, amethyst steam room or sauna before enjoying the signature Time Ritual treatment. Unlike a set treatment, the Time Ritual is all about the client. Simply book a segment of time and work with the therapist to create a service that meets individual needs. Do a simple Swedish massage, or try a Chakra balancing stone massage. Include an exfoliation, scalp massage or express facial. Whatever the client wants can happen during the Time Ritual. For individuals without an express preference, the therapist will perform a foot bath, exfoliation, massage and express facial.

After the treatment enjoy the relaxation room with a terrific view of Central Park and the city. Don’t be surprised when someone brings you a blueberry smoothie and small caprese appetizer.

For couples, the VIP suite features a huge replica of a Chinese Kang Bed and large Jacuzzi tub. It’s the perfect space to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Another nice touch is the personal amenity kit each guest receives and is there’s to keep.
