Oktoberfest--Bear Mountain State Park-- German celebration of the harvest. Featuring German beer, food and entertainment. noon-6pm.

Pearl River Day--Pearl River--2nd annual event features a street fair with live performances and food. Carnival style rides for children in the park.

Westchester Running Festival--White Plains--Features a half-marathon, a 10K Run, and a short run for children. Begins on Central Avenue. Begins at 6AM.

The Big Sit--Yonkers--Annual event to watch the hawk migration. Located in Lenoir Preserve. View many different species of birds at the preserve. Begins at 8AM.

Suffern Street Fair--Suffern--In addition to craft vendors, there will be live performances, a petting zoo, and pony rides. Combine with the Nyack Street Fair (below) for a full Street Fair experience.

Nyack Street Fair--Nyack--Large fair with over 300 vendors expected. Arts, crafts,food, and live performances. Combine with Suffern Street Fair.

Columbus Day Cruise--Haverstraw--A two hour cruise from Haverstraw to the Bear Mountain Bridge and back. The leaves should be in peak color. Reservations required. 1230PM--230PM.

Columbus Day Sale--Central Valley--Woodbury Commons is having its annual Columbus Day Sale. 220 Designer outlets in a pleasant outdoor setting. Easy access from the NYS Thruway. 9AM-9PM.

Susan Tedeschi--Poughkeepsie--Brilliant blues guitarist and singer playing at Bardavon Opera House. Opening act is Raul Midon. 8PM.

Forest of Fear--Sterling Forest--An excellent and very scary Halloween Event. The main exhibit is a 26 room haunted house. Rides, entertainers, and a marketplace. Not for young children. Dusk--12AM.

Grape Stomping--Washingtonville--This event at Brotherhood Winery lets visitors smush their own grapes Lucy style. Live music and competitions. All ages welcome. 12PM-4PM.

Native American Longhouse Sleepover Adventure--New Paltz--An event for kids at Mohonk Preserve. Cook traditional foods and learn Native American skills and culture. Involves a moderate 4 mile hike. For children ages 7-14.

Weedstock--Marlboro--Apple festival at Weed Orchards. Features pick you own apples, hay rides, a petty zoo, and a live band.
Upper Hudson Valley (Greene and Columbia)

Dalmatian Day--Hudson--An event for children featuring all things Dalmatian. Live dogs, Dalmatian-themed crafts. Dalmatian puppet show. FASNY Museum of Firefighting. 10AM-3PM.

Oktoberfest--Hunter Mountain--Celebration of all things German in the middle of Catskill Park. German and Austrian music, foods, and beverages. Entertainers and petting zoo. Skyride if weather permitting.
